A Christianity of the Supernatural

I read this passage from 1 Corinthians today “My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power” (2:4).

Why is it that so few non Christians know us for the supernatural aspects of our faith. Too many people know us for using marketing tactics and fashionable fads to try to convince them of the truth of our faith, or for rigid doctrines. Why don’t we just ask for the opportunity to pray for people who haven’t yet met Jesus whenever something comes unstuck in their lives. Let me give you an example:

My friend Linda was in Fiji in December and a family asked her to pray for their five year old child. When she saw the problem she said to herself, “Oh great, why did I get this job”. The child had a severely bowed leg. But in simple obedience she prayed and before her eyes that badly bowed leg straightened itself to the point where the child had two uneven legs. She then prayed again and the short leg grew out to match the other. She said the smile on the child’s face was priceless!

That child will tell of that day for the rest of its life, while the family will speak well of Jesus for months to all who know the child. A miracle and an answer to prayer is worth a thousand sermons. That is what the world is waiting to see from us. Don’t preach, just pray for an opportunity to pray and let God do the rest because he died to introduce himself to them.

God bless
